Sophia Balagamwala

Captivated by how stories are constructed, Sophia’s work explores the space where history and fictional nonsense collide. Her visual language borrows from a gambit of storytelling mediums, from children’s books to political caricatures, questioning the myths of national heroes and histories.
Sophia is a graduate of the University of Toronto and Cornell University. She is based in Karachi, Pakistan. She has been exhibited locally and internationally including a group show at Site 109, New York (2014) and solo exhibitions ‘YAY YAH WHO’ at VM Art Gallery, Karachi (2016) and 'Heroes and Others' at the Taseer Art Gallery in Lahore (2017).
